disney world time machine

In 2000, the 3 Mankins visited Orlando’s Disney World. Emma was only 18 months old. Along the far side of “Minnie’s House” was a trash receptacle. I sat Emma down on top of the bin & had Kathy snap a picture of Emma & me. On our return visit to Disney World in early November ’06 (now 4 Mankins), we took advantage of the same setting to grab another picture – same spot, same dad/daughter pose – 6 years later. Here is the result. Emma has grown, and I have actually shrunk some 60 pounds!

Gotta love that Disney Magic!

“MICKEY!”

11 11 2006

Goofy MankinsMy son Peter has had some developmental delays – for example, he reached age three without talking. Doctor appointments and special classes/schooling have been a regular part of our life with Peter. At one point, we decided that if Peter would/could start speaking, we were (as coined in the Superbowl commercials) “going to Disney World!”

As you may have read in a previous post, Peter has started to speak. We rented a minivan, loaded it up with all kinds of stuff (both useful & useless) and headed south to Orlando. All four of us had a great time. An especially poignant moment occurred as we drove through the Disneyworld main gate. A statue of Mickey Mouse stands tall, welcoming all to the Disney complex. Peter loudly shouted “Mickey” as we approached. There wasn’t a dry eye in the van.

More Disney World / Florida adventures to follow.

Yes, Peter is talking.
